“If I should fall even a thousand times a day, a thousand times, with peaceful repentance, I will say immediately, Nunc Coepi [now I begin].”— Venerable Bruno Lanteri
At 34 years old, 20 weeks pregnant with my first child, and heavier and less fit than I’ve been in years, I almost talked myself out of starting this project.
Not the right season, I told myself.
Not the right time. But then I realized—that voice wasn’t truth.
It was Resistance.
Steven Pressfield calls it out so clearly in his book The War of Art:
“It’s not the writing part that’s hard. What’s hard is sitting down to write. What keeps us from sitting down is Resistance.”
Resistance doesn’t just stop writers. It shows up when we want to:
Start a healthier routine
Grow in our faith
Pursue a hobby or sport
Launch a new business
Or finally share the creative idea that’s been sitting in our hearts
Naming Resistance, Choosing to Begin
For years, I’ve felt underqualified, like an imposter, or like anything I had to say had already been said by someone else. Maybe you’ve felt the same. But here’s the thing: none of that disqualifies us.
Starting my blog and @sarah_farley_wellness on Instagram is me finally punching Resistance in the face—at least for today.
And that’s all any of us need to do: begin again. Even if it’s a thousand times in a single day.
The Power of “Now I Begin”
Maybe your healthier, more grounded, more joyful self isn’t just around the corner. Maybe they’re down the block and around a few more turns. That’s okay.
Each step forward matters. Each time you whisper Nunc Coepi—now I begin—you’ve already won a small victory.
Your health is worth investing in.
Never give up.
With love,
Sarah
