If you're dreaming of towering mountain peaks, winding trails, crisp alpine air, and time well spent with people you love — then Kananaskis Country is calling your name.
We just returned from one of the most memorable trips our family has ever taken, and I couldn’t wait to share our Kananaskis review with you — not just for the scenery, but for the way this place made us feel.

The Magic of Kananaskis
Nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Kananaskis Country is often overshadowed by its glitzier neighbor, Banff — but don’t let that fool you. This gem of Alberta has its own rhythm: quieter, more personal, and in many ways, more breathtaking.
From the moment we arrived, it was like stepping into a postcard. Clear blue skies stretched over peaks that seemed to hug us from every direction. The trails were peaceful, the lakes serene, and the wildlife politely kept their distance (with the exception of one curious squirrel who clearly wanted to join our snack break).
A Place for Family
What made this trip so special wasn’t just the view — it was the people.
We were lucky enough to share this adventure with extended family and dear friends.
There were 17 of us in total (plus one very photogenic pup), all gathered together under the mountain sun.
Morning coffee on the deck. Group photos with mountain backdrops. Laughter echoing off the trees.
And yes — a few competitive rounds of cards after dinner.
Kananaskis isn’t just a place to see; it’s a place to feel. To connect. To breathe.
Where We Stayed & What We Loved
We stayed near Mt. Lorette and Mt. Kidd, a perfect location for both quiet relaxation and easy access to trailheads. Some highlights from our time in Kananaskis:
Hikes near the Troll Falls trail: Easy enough for the younger ones, beautiful enough for the photo albums.
Picnic spots by Barrier Lake: Bring a blanket, a charcuterie board, and let the afternoon pass slowly.
Kananaskis Nordic Spa (for the lucky adults): Heaven on Earth after a long travel day.
Final Thoughts: Would We Go Back?
In a heartbeat.
If you're searching for a family-friendly destination that feels tucked away from the world — but still offers stunning views, cozy accommodations, and endless chances to connect — Kananaskis is it.
This isn’t just a Kananaskis review from a traveler. It’s a love letter from a family that left with full hearts, tired legs, and about 1,000 new photos.
Until next time, Kananaskis. ❤️
