Sometimes, the best moments in life aren’t planned — they just happen. With the Arizona heat in full swing, we packed up the car and headed west for a last-minute escape to the coast.

No real itinerary, no big expectations — just a desire to breathe in some ocean air, try something new, and make the most of summer.

Let me tell you... Carlsbad delivered.

American flag waving on a balcony in Carlsbad, California, with trees and blue sky in the background on a summer day.

🍔 First Stop: Tanner’s Prime in Oceanside

After a long, slightly giggly debate about where to grab lunch, we pulled into Tanner’s Prime — and oh my stars, I’m so glad we did.

Their Smashburger was one of the best I’ve had in years. Crispy edges, juicy center, perfect cheese melt. Kevin opted for the Smashburger salad (because, balance), and he swears it’s a new favorite.

Add in a cold drink and patio sunshine, and you've got a lunch to remember.

🍦 Sweet Treats Across the Street at Little Fox

Now, I don’t usually fall head-over-heels for ice cream, but across the street we stumbled upon Little Fox — a sweet little gem that served up lemon lavender custard (yes, you read that right) and banana pancake ice cream that made me stop mid-bite and say “wow.”

It’s the kind of place that feels like it belongs in a storybook — warm staff, creative flavors, and a touch of whimsy. You have to go if you're ever nearby.

🧺 Carlsbad Farmers Market Finds

After our treat stop, we wandered into the Carlsbad Farmers Market — a place that’s always buzzing with energy, laughter, and the smell of fresh herbs and sourdough bread.

We picked up a few goodies to enjoy at the house later that night, including the most beautiful heirloom tomatoes and a lavender-scented lotion that’s now living on my nightstand.

It’s the little things, right?

🎶 Bonus: A Concert in the Park

We didn’t stay long, but we did swing by Solana Beach to scope out the park where the Concert in the Park was happening the next evening. There’s something so magical about families gathered on picnic blankets, music filling the air, and kids chasing bubbles as the sun sets.

We didn’t plan to be there — but now we can’t wait to come back.

💛 Final Thoughts

This little trip wasn’t fancy or far-flung — it was simple. And maybe that’s what made it so special. The food was delicious, the breeze was healing, and the company was my favorite part of all.

So here’s your reminder: don’t wait for the perfect plan. Just go. Chase a breeze. Taste something unexpected.

Let the moment unfold.

Because sometimes, the best adventures are the ones you don’t plan.
