Behind the Scenes at Chase Field: A Baseball Lover’s Dream Tour

There’s something about walking into a ballpark — even when it’s empty — that gives you goosebumps. The smell of the turf, the echo of footsteps in the stands, and the thought that just days earlier, some of baseball’s biggest names stood right where you are.

For us, that place was Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks — and what a treat it was. Now, my heart might belong to the Dodgers (especially during the World Series!), but I have to admit: the Diamondbacks know how to put on a show, both on and off the field.

A Ballpark with Personality

From the moment you walk in, Chase Field feels like part sports arena, part entertainment experience. The Serpientes mural — a larger-than-life tribute to the team’s alternate identity — greets you in a blaze of purple and turquoise.

It’s the kind of thing that makes even a die-hard Dodgers fan pause for a photo.

The tour is open to the public (with private and group options), and if you’re even a casual baseball fan, it’s a must.

Our guide was full of stories — from the team’s early days to the unforgettable 2001 World Series, when the D-backs clinched their championship in a nail-biting seven-game series against the Yankees.

Seeing the World Series trophy up close? Absolutely incredible.

Walking in the Players’ Footsteps

The tour took about an hour and covered close to three miles — so trust me when I say, wear comfortable shoes. You’ll explore nearly every corner of the stadium: the dugout, the press box, the interview room, and even on the field itself.

There’s something magical about standing where players take the field, or sitting where they gather before a game.

We also had the chance to step behind the mic in the press conference room — a fun surprise for any fan who’s watched post-game interviews on TV.

And from the press box, we took in the entire stadium from above — a breathtaking view that makes you appreciate just how massive and meticulously designed Chase Field really is.

Coolest Seat in Baseball

One of the quirkiest and most iconic features of Chase Field is the pool in right field. Yes, a real swimming pool — perfect for those Arizona summer games when the temperature soars. Watching baseball while taking a dip? Only in Phoenix.

It’s little touches like that — and the fact that the stadium has a retractable roof to keep everyone cool — that make it such a unique experience.

A Perfect Day at the Ballpark

After the tour, we stopped by the Team Shop, where our guide handed out coupons for a little souvenir shopping (I may have broken my Dodger loyalty for a moment or two).

Then we wrapped up the afternoon with lunch at Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers, right inside the stadium. Burgers, baseball talk, and a whole lot of smiles — the perfect combo.

Here’s what I’ve learned: even if your heart belongs to another team, it’s impossible not to fall a little bit in love with the game itself when you’re surrounded by so much history, energy, and heart.
